| Svedana |
| |
A therapy by which
a person is made to sweat is svedan. Sveda (sweat) is considered
a waste product of the body. Snehan (oil therapy) should be followed
by Svedan. Svedan is the best treatment for reducing vata and kapha.
Herbal medicines may be added further to loosen the toxins from
the individual.
Svedan liquefies the aggravated doshas and increases their movement
into the koshtha (trunk, gastro-intestinal tract) from the shakhas
(extremities). After three to seven days of snehan and svedan, the
doshas become well "ripened." Then the aggravated doshas
can be eliminated by Panchkarma (operative procedures) viz., vaman
etc. |
